This 100% Lagrein, a varietal indigenous to the northern Italian region of Alto Adige, springs forth with a captivating nose of rose, lavender, violet, and blueberry. In the words of wine writer Eric Asimov Lagrein produces “congenial, straightforward wines that can be deliciously plummy, earthy and chewy, dark and full-bodied but not heavy, with a pronounced minerally edge.” We couldn’t have said it better and this bottling is a prime example. Side note... Amanda really loves this wine. Loves it.
The winery of the Neustift monastery is one of the oldest active wineries in the world, tracing its roots back to 1142 and was founded by the Augustinian Order of Canons Regular who still tend the vineyards to this day.
A great pairing with boar sugo and wild mushroom polenta, a casual weekday pizza night, or any dish with Truffles.
